Visit a restaurant and write a review

Take the students to a local restaurant; preferably serving ethnic food. Have them write a review of the meal and the service. Follow up with a collection of recipes typical from each of their own countries.

Give and follow directions

Bring all the ingredients to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. This a typical snack from the United States. The teacher models while telling the steps to make the sandwich. Then students work in pairs to do the same. Of course, they all end up eating the results of their hard work!
